Brownfield Opportunities to

Revitalize Communities

A BOMA WM Presentation hosted by Warner Norcross + Judd

Wednesday, December 13th @ Warner Norcross + Judd

Network with industry peers and learn about how Brownfield Development can be an important piece of community revitalization!

Brownfield sites are former industrial or commercial sites that are not currently in use due to the presence of contaminants, functional obsolescence or they may encompass historical resources that could be revitalized, redeveloped, or reused. Hear from Jared Belka, attorney at Warner, Norcross + Judd, and Ryan Wheeler, President of Wheeler Development Group about what resources are available to facilitate the redevelopment of these properties as well as the risks and rewards associated with them.

Limited event sponsorships available! Please contact Jackie at wmbae@bomawm.org to learn more about event sponsorship opportunities.

Presenter Bios

Jared Belka, Partner, Warner Norcross + Judd

Helping clients find funding to bring their construction projects to life, Jared Belka concentrates his practice on economic development, with a primary focus on securing brownfield redevelopment incentives. Jared's deep knowledge and stellar reputation for hard work and honesty engender trust and make him a go-to lawyer in this arena. He also counsels organizations on public-private partnerships, real estate and environmental law matters.

Prior to finishing law school, Jared worked as a brownfield redevelopment specialist with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. This experience enhances his extensive ability to negotiate redevelopment incentive packages with local and state governments. Over the course of his career Jared has helped his clients secure more than $1.5 billion in economic enticements, resulting in various commercial, residential and industrial development projects across Michigan. He currently chairs the firm's Economic Incentives Practice Group. With a great appreciation for the intellectual challenge of problem-solving, Jared is gratified to play a role in creating tangible structures, which in turn provide jobs and essential places for people to live and work.

Ryan Wheeler, President, Wheeler Development Group

Ryan has been working in construction and real estate since he began working as a laborer in 1999. After graduating from Kalamazoo College in 2005 he has worked his way up through various construction and development roles, started and run multiple companies, and is now President of Wheeler Development Group and Partner in Pure Real Estate Management and Brokerage. He has helped develop and manages a real estate portfolio with over $300 million in value comprised of nearly twenty residential, hospitality and commercial developments. Ryan has been involved in numerous non-profit organizations focused on wildlife and habitat conservation efforts. His passion for real estate is balanced by his love for the outdoors; if he is not working with the team on the next deal, he is probably with family and friends out in the wild.
