This event will include a walking tour of the Next Step of West Michigan Campus and a panel presentation on the 100 in 100 initiative, local programs and services, and policy support related to neighborhood development.

David Bult | Executive Director |
Next Step of West Michigan
David joined Next Step of West Michigan in 2020, initially leading adult and high school training programs. After the 2020 merger with Mel Trotter Ministries, David became Executive Director in 2023, overseeing the organization's divisions in skills training, wood manufacturing, city services, and construction. He is passionate about bridging the training and employment gap in the wood manufacturing and construction industries while fostering relationships within the community. Prior to returning to Grand Rapids, David spent 10 years in Casablanca,Morocco, where he founded a furniture manufacturing company and a woodworking training center for underserved youth. He holds a Master's in Furniture Design from UAL Central Saint Martins in London and is grateful to be back in Grand Rapids, contributing to Next Step's mission.
Ryan Kilpatrick | Owner & Lead Consultant | Flywheel Companies
Ryan Kilpatrick has nearly 20 years of experience supporting local units of government with technical assistance and best practice implementation through planning, zoning, process improvement, and the use of financial tools to create economically vibrant communities. As the founding Executive Director of Housing Next, he helped to define access to housing as a core economic development issue for West Michigan through data-oriented dialogue and partnership with employers, local municipalities, chambers of commerce, and developers. Ryan now leads a private consulting practice called Flywheel Community Development Services that is designed to help local communities build momentum through best practices in housing and economic development. Ryan is a certified professional with the American Planning Association, a National Development Council's Economic Development Finance Professional, and a co-author of the Michigan Statewide Zoning Reform Toolkit.
Thelma Ensink | Executive Director | Degage Ministries
Thelma Ensink has served as the Executive Director of Degage Ministries since 2021. She served previously as the Head of School and High School Principal at Grandville Calvin Christian Schools. She has served on multiple boards including Safe Haven Ministries and as a trustee on the Christian Schools International Pension Board. She received her bachelor's degree in secondary education from Calvin University and her master's degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.
